Whitehill 5 Easthouses 2 - Image Printers Cup Round 2
Whitehill: Walker, S. Robertson, W Kidd, Thom, Hall, D Robertson, Sproule, Herd, McIntosh, Sinclair, Moffat. Subs: Somerville, Manson,, A Kidd, Young, Bruce
Whitehill made five changes to the side who started last week's match against Easthouses when we struck 7 passed today's visitors. Easthouses who also made changes to their starting 11 were fired up for revenge and it was the visitors who took the lead in 7 minutes when after a corner wasn't cleared Young got on the end of the resultant cross to slot home. Thom was the first Whitehill player to fall foul of the referee and was Yellow Carded for a challenge in the 12th minute. On 20 minutes Thom was again involved in the action, this time taking a quick throw in to Sinclair who flicked the ball into the path of Wayne Mcintosh who drilled a low shot into the back of the net for the equaliser. Herd then finished off a nice move through the middle of the park with a low drive which was turned round the post for a corner.
But, within 5 minutes Easthouses had the chance to regain the lead after the referee gave a penalty against Herd for a challenge in the box. Fortunately for Whitehill , the resultant spot kick was blasted high over the bar. Moffat was the second home player to receive a yeelow card for a late challenge, however Easthouses couldn't take advantage of the free-kick from 25 yards, as Walker watched it sail over his crossbar.
Will Kidd was next to try his luck, but his shot was into the side net. As the half drew to a close, Sinclair ran on to a lovely through ball from Thom, but was denied by a great save from the Easthouses keeper to keep the scores level at half-time.
At the break Whitehill replaced Dayne Robertson and Kevin Moffat with Andrew Kidd and Steven Manson.
However within a minute of the restart the home side were behind again, a quick Easthouses break ended with Boggie finishing off the move with a fine shot leaving Walker no chance.
Rab Paget made his final change, sacrifing Steven Robertson and bringing on Aaron Somerville. It was Aaron who received a pass from McIntosh after a fine run by the Whitehill captain, and he found Sinclair who made no mistake from 8 yards to equalise. In a frenetic next few minutes, Andrew Kidd was the third Whitehill player to receive a yellow card from the referee. The same player then fired a great shot just over the bar as Whitehill went looking for another goal. In the space of 90 seconds they had two!
Firstly McIntosh broke free from the Easthouses defence, fired a low cross into the box which eventually came to Somerville who made no mistake. And it was McIntosh himself who made it four when he ran onto a great through pass from Manson, rounded the keeper and slotted home.
Easthouses continued to push to get back into the game, but this left gaps at the back and with two minutes left on the watch, from a fine Sproule pass Andrew Kidd ran from his own half to get on the end of it, chipping the keeper from the corner of the 18 yard box for a fine goal.
The final couple of minutes plus additional time were played out with no further goals for a final score of Whitehill 5 Easthouses 2.
A good result heading into next weeks Scottish Cup away to Edinburgh University.
