EOSPL: Whitehill Welfare 1 Civil Service Strollers 3

Whitehill: Walker, Hall, Young (Boggie), W Kidd, Bruce, A Kidd (Robertson), Herd (Munro), Bonthrone, Manson, Sommerville, McIntosh
subs: Sinclair (not used).

After the unexpected resignation of Manager Rab Paget last weekend, Whitehill hosted the Premier League's
second placed team with Grant Carnie in charge of team matters for the Rosewell side.

At a blustery Ferguson Park, Whitehill with the wind advantage were the first to show, forcing a corner in
the first minute after some good work by Manson. The subsequent corner was well claimed by Civil's keeper
Cadger.

Whitehill continued to press forward and after a fine run and cross into the box by full-back Young, Civil had
Cadger to think as he got down low to turn Bonthrone's low shot round the post. However within 90 seconds
the home side were in front. A long ball from Kidd, was chested into the path of Herd, his driving run down
the left beat the civil full back and he found McIntosh in the box, the Whitehill striker finishing clinically from
6 yards.

Herd almost doubled Whitehill's advantage midway through the half, his 25 yard free-kick was goalbound
until it was turned around the post by Cadger.

Civil should have been level two minutes later, a fine free-kick from ex Whitehill midfielder Paul Lynch, was
headed just over.
Five minutes later, Lynch was again the provider, driving the ball across goal, but with no-one able to get on
the end of his cross, the home defence cleared the ball to safety. Civil were coming more into the game, and
on 36 minutes were awarded a penalty when the home defence hesitated, before Civil's striker Wilson was
tripped. Jack gave Walker in the home goal no chance as he coolly slotted the ball home to square the match
at 1-1.
Both teams battled for control of the match but neither could gain any advantage as the half ended on level
terms.

Grant Carnie replaced Herd with Munro at half time as Whitehill went searching for the lead again. Within
90 seconds of the restart McIntosh raced to the bye line, his low cross was met by Manson, however his shot
was blocked by the feet of Cadger, unfortunately for Whitehill the loose ball was cleared by Civil's defence.
Civil then headed straight down the pitch, and a cross from the right was driven home Alan Wilson from 12
yards to give Civil the lead.

Somerville who was leading the line for Whitehill then picked up the ball at halfway, beat two players and
was ready to shoot from the edge of the 18 yard box when he was brought down by Jack who received a
yellow card for the challenge. Sommerville took the free-kick himself, but the defensive wall did its job and
despite the rebound falling to the Whitehill striker, he was just off target with his second effort.
Whitehill then replaced Andrew Kidd with Dayne Robertson as they went looking for an equaliser, but they
had Walker to thank for a good save at the feet of the on rushing Rennie after some slack defending.
Young was then shown a yellow card for a rash challenge at the edge of the 18 yard box, Willie Kidd clearing
the danger from the resultant free kick.

Robertson then played a quick free kick to Young, who crossed to the back post, only for the ball to take an
awkward bounce and elude substitute Munro as he desperately stretched to get on the end of the cross.
The game was all but over with 15 minutes to go when Anderson slotted past Walker to give Civil a two goal
advantage. Whitehill immediately brought on Boggie for Young, but despite creating a couple of chances the
home side were unable to get back on level terms and slipped to their third defeat of the year.
