Edinburgh City 1 Whitehill 2
Whitehill qualified as winners of group C after a narrow victory at Meadowbank where all the good work was done in the first half. Whitehill could be reasonably happy with a goalless half hour in which they had looked the more positive side without creating much in the way of chances. After 31 minutes Wayne McIntosh found space on the left and was able to deliver a perfect cross for the unmarked Aaron Somerville to finish with a powerful header. Eight minutes later Andrew Kidd supplied the pass that enabled Somerville to run on and round the 'keeper before slotting home from a narrow angle on the right.
A few minutes later a mistake by Mike Bruce allowed City to break down the right before a powerful shot was saved by Darren Walker. However the ball broke to City's Dougie Gair who hammered home the rebound.
The second half was largely a non-event but provided some exercise for Tommy Ward as he retrieved the wayward balls. City pressed but caused Walker very few problems. Welfare were content to use their pace on the break and had a couple of close things, McIntosh heading over, and Sproule hitting the side netting. In 58 minutes Mike Bruce suffered an injury and was replaced by Steven Robertson at right back, with Wullie Kidd moving to centre half. Whitehill saw out the game and progress to the last eight.
Team: Walker; W.Kidd, Hall, Bruce (Robertson 58), Trialist; Sproule, A. Kidd, Bonthrone (Trialist 65), Manson; McIntosh, Somerville (Taylor 83).
