9th August:

Edinburgh University 0 Whitehill Welfare 0. It proved to be a very frustrating night at Peffermill as a dominant Whitehill drew a blank largely due to a host of missed opportunities and a home keeper who had a blinder. Whitehill had the best of a hard fought first half with Herd going closest with a well driven shot pushed clear by Mark Tait in the University goal. Rab clearly fired the players up at half time as they set about trying to win the game with wave after wave of attack. Bonthrone replaced Sproule as Mikey Bruce headed a Herd cross over and a Gareth Thom shot from all of 35 yards was tipped round the post by Tait. Gormley was introduced in place of Manson as Whitehill went with 3 up front. He almost got to a Thom header across the face of goal, Herd shot from close range but Tait saved with his feet and then somehow saved a header from point blank range from Mikey Bruce. Gormley met a cross ball and shot high at goal only to see it tipped over the bar before in the dying seconds Andy Kidd met a Thom cross but shot wide. It's fair to say it was a disappointed and frustrated group of players and management at the end and thoughts now turn to Gala Fairydean at home on Saturday. Elsewhere tonight Edinburgh City won 1-0 away to Gala to top Group C on 6 points while our own draw leaves us on 4 points, level with Edinburgh University but ahead on goal difference.
