Whitehill Welfare 4 Eyemouth United 1

EOS Qualifying Cup Group C Match 1. It was a winning start to the season for Whitehill this afternoon at a soaking wet Ferguson Park. In a first half which we dominated in large spells there were chances at both ends however a superb finish from Andrew Kidd was the difference between the sides at half time. Aaron Sommerville replaced Scott Gormley at the break and he made it 2-0 early in the second half with a clinical finish. Wayne McIntosh headed in a third before Wayne Sproule was fouled in the box and the referee awarded a penalty. However, Andrew Kidd put it over the bar, sending Tommy Ward over the fence and chest high in nettles looking for the ball! The referee pointed to the spot again when this time McIntosh was fouled in the box and Jim Young made no mistake smashing it home for 4-0. Eyemouth United never gave in and pulled a deserved goal back. Elsewhere in Group C there were wins for Edinburgh City and Edinburgh University who we face next at Peffermill on Tuesday.
