Whitehill were determined to take all three points after their disappointment on failing to score on Tuesday against a resolute Edinburgh University goalkeeper. In the 3rd minute Young had to leave the field and was replaced by Gormley. The home fans did not have to wait long for the deadlock to be broken as Wayne McIntosh clinically finished a Manson cross in the 5th minute to put the home side in front. In the 12th minute after Manson was brought down in the box McIntosh stepped up to slam the ball past Turnbull to make it 2-0. And, McIntosh completed his hat-trick in 25 minutes when after some neat play with Herd and Sproule he finished off the move with a 25 yard shot leaving the keeper with no chance. Gormley then had a chance to increase the lead, however Turnbull denied the striker with a fine save.
Half Time Whitehill 3 Gala 0.
The second half started with the home side straight on the attack, Manson came close with a low drive across the keeper. Bonthrone then had a shot blocked by a last gasp tackle from McBride. Whitehill replaced Andrew Kidd and Hat-trick hero Wayne Mcintosh on the hour with Danny Taylor and Aaron Sommerville coming on. Within 2 minutes Whitehill had increased their lead, From a Sproule corner, Willie Kidd's header back across goal was headed in by Robertson. 5 minutes later and Sproule got on the scoresheet with a 25 yard shot into the top corner. After a lovely through ball by Robertson, Gormley saw another chance saved by Turnbull before substitute Somerville beat two Gala players before sending a skidding shot from the edge of the box past the keeper for 6-0 with 12 minutes to go. With 5 minutes left Gormley ran onto a through ball from Bonthrone, rounded the keper and slotted the ball home for number 7. Gala who had never given up were rewarded with a consolation goal in the last minute when Whitehill failed to deal with a high cross and the ball ended up in the back of the net.
