Whitehill Welfare 2 Newtongrange Star 1

For the second time in 3 days Gary Small’s side recovered from going a goal down to win in tonight’s pre-season friendly with Newtongrange Star at the Lasswade Centre.

There was another start for 17 year old Shea Dowie in goal while Craig O’Reilly stepped into the back 3 alongside Kevin Keane and Craig Reid.

The game was only 7 minutes old when the Star won a free kick 20 yards out and former Welfare left back Dale O’Hara found the bottom corner of the net with a trademark free kick.

Prior to the opener Fabio Neto had passed up a great opportunity and he teed up Jack Wright who came closest to a first half equaliser with his shot striking the crossbar.

With an hour played Whitehill were level. Substitute Stephen Manson’s corner found its way to Craig O’Reilly who found the back of the net with a sharp finish. And on 72 minutes the comeback was completed when Neto drove forward in space and found the bottom corner from 25 yards.

A big thank you to the Star for the game tonight and all the best for the new season ahead.
