Whitehill Welfare 1 Heaton Stannington 2

An 88th minute equaliser looked to have earned Whitehill a draw that an encouraging performance at least deserved however the visitors snatched a 2-1 win in stoppage time.

In the heavy rain a slick move led to the opener for Heaton on 12 minutes. Gary Yates slid in Dan Robinson who scored low past the keeper. Whitehill would go on to be on top for much of the first half with John-Ross Kerr, Kerr Dodds and Scott Gormley all going close.

Following a half time down pour the pitch was heavy in the second half and things became a bit scrappy. Having made 6 changes at the break Whitehill searched for an equaliser and it came 2 minutes from time. Willie Kidd headed down a Sonny Swanson free kick and the trialist French left back scored from close range. A draw would have been the least that Whitehill's performance deserved but it wasn't to be. Heaton won a free kick by the byline and after the cross wasn't dealt with substitute Richie Hoggins found the back of the net to win it.

The result aside this was a promising Welfare performance and a good day for the club welcoming everyone up from Newcastle. Thanks to everyone who travelled and hopefully our paths will cross again.
